Heatwave Alert: Why Are Kanpur Schools Ignoring Government Orders? (Time to Level Up Safety!)

The heat in Kanpur right now is absolutely no joke. While we’re all trying to manifest cooler vibes and stay hydrated, the reality hitting the streets is getting dangerous. I’m honestly so worried about our kids right now. The government has stepped in with clear orders to protect them, yet it feels like some of our top institutions are totally out of sync.

The Heatwave is Here, but the Schedule Hasn’t Moved

Yesterday, the UP Director of Education (Basic) issued a mandatory revision for school timings due to the brutal heatwave conditions. The directive was clear: students should be out by 12:30 PM to avoid the peak afternoon sun.

But here’s what’s bothering me—today, big names like SPSEC, Dr. Virendra Swarup, and DPS reportedly followed their old schedules. While the rest of the state is adjusting to the 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM window, many students in Kanpur were still heading home in the middle of the scorching afternoon heat.

Safety Over “Business as Usual”

We talk so much about a “Level Up” mindset and taking care of our well-being, but that has to apply to our children first. Exposure to this kind of heat isn’t just uncomfortable; it’s a health risk.

If these schools feel that the 12:30 PM dismissal cuts too much into academic time, there is a very simple, modern solution: Online Classes. We have the tech, the teachers are trained, and most of these schools brand themselves on being “tech-forward.” Why force kids to commute in 42°C when they could be learning safely from home during this peak heat period (which the IMD says will last at least until April 25)?

What Needs to Change

It’s time for the school managements to prioritize student wellness over rigid routines. We need:

  • Immediate compliance with the 12:30 PM dismissal.

  • A shift to virtual learning if the heatwave intensifies.

  • Strict accountability from the District Education Officers to ensure no school is “above the law” when it comes to child safety.

I really hope to see a change starting tomorrow. Let’s keep our energy focused on health and safety right now, nothing is more important than that.
