This World Environment Day, Pledge To Say No To Plastic Straws & Bags

Cutting long story short, most of us use plastic straws which is not at all needed. You order a single glass of water in a cafe and they put straw in it? Think is it really required? Know that a single plastic straw takes up to 500 years to decompose. We use it one time and it ends up being dumped into the ocean. It not just affect the food chain but also causes pollution. I believe use of straw is just a way to increase plastic pollution. But if you really want to use straws, you can always switch steel straws, glass straws or paper straws. Most of the cities in US have banned the use of plastic straws. Even in India, plastic bags (polythenes) are banned in some cities like Mumbai, Nainital, Mysore etc. And even if it;s not banned in your city by govt. you can always take a step from your side. You can use cloth or jute bags and replace polythenes. Let’s make this World Environment Day count & let’s take a step towards a good future.

The idea is to avoid using plastic, especially one-time plastic items which ends up in your garbage bin after one use. If we will stop using these plastic items, manufacturers will stop making it due to the decrease in demand and eventually, we’ll be free from plastic pollution. I know this will not happen over-night because surely we can do our bit today!

Other easy and simple ways to avoid pollution and help environment are as follows:

  • Plant trees
  • Use electricity only when required and do turn off switches leaving the home
  • Print when required
  • Save water (Tip: You can reduce your bath time and yes, avoid using the bath-tubs, once in a while is okay but don’t use it regularly)
  • Use re-usable items like cloth bags, wooden boxes, wood toothbrushes etc
  • Make use of public transport
  • Carry a water-bottle with you when stepping our for work or travelling

Hope you’ll understand that it’s high time now we should take the responsibility. This is our planet, our home and we should keep it as much clean as possible.
