How To Live Alone Without Feeling Lonely?

I have lived alone for a year in Delhi. At first, it was tough for me to cope up because I have always lived with my family or a room mate. But then I became used to it and started to enjoy my own company. I created my own zone and was able to live alone without feeling lonely. If you too have started living alone recently or struggling to live alone and feeling lonely, then here I am sharing these tips that might help you.

Tips to live alone without feeling lonely

Make daily rituals & set a routine:

Do you love waking at the musical beats? Play the music that you love. It will help you to start your day on a good note. Do you love walking? How about going for an evening walk and breathing some fresh lights? If you can wake up early, try the morning walks. The sunrise and the sunset is the best thing to watch. The idea is to set a daily routine and fix some rituals that will help to go through the day smoothly. Fixed rituals and daily routines help you save yourself from boredom. I had a fixed morning and night routine that kept me busy and never made me feel lonely.

Know your neighbours:

Most of the times we are so self-centered that we do not know who our neighbours are. It is always better to open your windows and doors and say a hello to them. It is always better to maintain a good rapport with your neighbours. You can talk to them and go for walk with your neighbors when feeling lonely. My landlady in Delhi also used to live alone because her kids were residing out station. We often used to stand and talk in her garden in the evening. It felt good!

Pets are important:

Pets are the best ways to kill the loneliness. They will pamper you and love unconditionally and will wait for you to return from your work. You can have a dog or a cat provided you are able to manage them, if you love animals or it’s allowed to keep in your apartment.

Set your home:

Do not leave your house empty. Decorate it. Have some artistic things and let your room be live.You can try out new things so that and keep yourself occupied.  It will give you a feeling of being with a company.

Invite people:

You will definitely have colleagues and friends. Why not invite them over a weekend party or a cup of coffee? You will surely love to have people at home and moreover it will strengthen your bond as well. My old roommate used to live nearby and we often used to catch up for coffee or a walk or maybe head out together for some daily grocery shopping.

Update 2020, scenario with lockdown and pandemic:

Since lockdown happened and pandemic hit the world real bad, It has become really hard for everyone living alone to cope up. Mental health too started to take a toll. I would strongly recommend that include some mindful activities like meditation, journaling, reading etc. in your daily routine, this will help you to have a relaxed day. Also, avoid interacting with people without mask and if you step out, make sure you practise social distancing and wash your hands regularly.
