8 Beautiful Places to Visit in Kutch, Gujrat

Kutch is the largest district in India with Covering an area of 45,674 km². I read somewhere that the total area of Kutch is larger than the entire area of states like Haryana and Kerala. Since, it cover such a large area, it is obvious that this place have so many amazing places to visit. If you are a regular follower of me on social media or this blog or my youtube channel (all links at the end of the article), you must have seen about my recent trip to Kutch for the Rann Utsav. I got a chance to explore so many beautiful places in Kutch. Though I was there for 4 days but still I missed many other beautiful places to visit in Kutch. But I am not sad as this has given me a reason to plan to trip to kutch again (and soon).

In this post, I am sharing 8 beautiful places to visit in Kutch. Save this post or pin it, if you are planning a trip to Kutch anytime soon!

1. The Great Rann of Kutch

My list had to start with this. The Great Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh (salt desert) situated on the massive thar desert. This is the largest salt desert in the world. You must visit it for it’s amazingly magical sunrise and a peaceful sunset. I would recommend you to go during the Rann utsav because then you will get to live in the beautiful tent city at the Dhordo which is 2 minutes from the Rann of kutch.

3. Kala Dungar

Kala dungar is the highest point of Kutch, situated on top of a hill. It gives a beautiful panoramic view of the kutch, the famous India bridge and ocean. I would recommend you to go towards the second half of the day because it is also a famous sunset point.

4. Magnetic Hill

Yes, there is magnetic hill road in Kutch which is way better than Ladakh’s magnetic hill in terms of the magnetic phenomena that people go to witness and experiment with their cars. I am not comparing the scenic beauty of the place because obviously ladakh stands out without a doubt! This is the one the way to Kala Dungar and you get to experience the phenomena while coming back from the kala dungar.

5. Gandhi Nu Gam

This is a small village by the local kutchi tribe which famous for your handicrafts and wooden carvings. You get to meet and interact with the locals who are really warm and welcoming. You can also buy handicraft items from there at a very reasonable price and in way it is better to buy from them as you support those local tribals who are really talented and hardworking.

6. Mandavi Beach

Mandavi is a small town in Kutch, about 140 kms away from the tent city (just in case you stay in the tent city at Rann Utsav) has a beautiful beach. The beach is neat and clean though seems like a backside of the ocean since water is really calm. This is also a nice place to witness the sunset.

7. Vijay Vilas Palace, Mandavi

Located in Mandavi, Vijay Vilas Place was once the summer palace of the Jadeja Maharao of Kutch. It is not open to tourist, though some part of the palace is still in use by the royal family and is not open for visitors. This palace covers a massive area and has beach on one-side while dense jungle on the other side. Many movies have been shot here such a Hum dil de chuke sanam, lagaan and commando.

8. Shyamji Krishna Varma Memorial

Shyamji Krishna Varma was an Indian lawyer, a patriot and a journalist who founded the Indian Home Rule Society, India House and The Indian Sociologist in London. This is memorial which aims to educate visitors about his life and also of other freedom fighters. The place is in mandavi which is his birth place. This memorial is situated at the very peaceful place and replica of London house looks beautiful.
