Buses are the most easiest way to travel because the connectivity and routes are available for almost every nook and corner of the country. Bus can take you to the places where trains can’t – for example Kedarnath, Badrinath, Amarnath and the list goes one. Though, long bus rides in India can be tiring and not suitable for people with motion-sickness, despite your comfortable reclining seat or sleeping berth or maybe the view outside. But you can find ways to make your bus ride in India, more comfortable and stress-free.
This is why I am writing this post to help you out. I have travelling by bus many times and that too solo! Once I travelled from Delhi to Manali and Delhi to Nainital via bus. I was also a part of Blogger Bus trip by Uttarakhand Tourism where we explore the off-beat locations of Uttarakhand state. best travel blogger in india
7 Tips for a Stress-Free Bus Ride
1. Book your seat in advance
Gone are the days when you had to stand in lines in the bus station to book your tickets. With so many apps giving us options to book our bus seats prior to our journey, I would always suggest you to book your tickets and seat in advance. Mostly all apps have this option to select the seat of your choice, select it properly.
This is not an ad or sponsored mention but I prefer using Paytm or Redbus to book my bus tickets.
2. Pack-light – tips for bus ride in india
This is very important! I would suggest you to have maximum 2 baggages with you when travelling via bus. And do not keep anything that is delicate and might get broken during the ride as the roads are often bumpy and luggages fell here and there inside the luggage box. Sometimes, it also get on top of other bags. So, better to pack-light and not keep anything delicate in it. Though, you can carry it with you in your handbag. Now, with handbag, make sure it is also not very big or heavy… because if it is a seater bus, the overhead space is not that much and if it is a sleeper bus, again, you will have to adjust it inside your berth; and you definitely do not want to sleep in an uncomfortable position throughout your journey
3. Carry your essentials
Mostly buses in India provide only water bottles and blankets, so make sure you carry your own essentials like snacks, sanitiser, perfume (just in case it becomes smelly or suffocating), hand towel, neck pillow etc.
4. Ear plugs and eye mask – best travel blog
Not all buses are sleepers, some are recliners as well. So, if you are travelling by a bus that have seats (no matter what type), you must carry ear plugs and eye mask. Some passengers in a public conveyance are very chatty and it might disturb you. And obviously, you need eye masks for a nice sleep. You can also opt for noise-cancelling earphones if you don’t have ear plugs.
5. Utilise the rest-stops
All bus have some rest stops where bus stops for some times. Mostly it is a dhaba or a motel. Make the most of your time at these stops. Use the loo, have a cup of tea or coffee, re-fill your bottles, buy snacks and eat something if you are hungry.
6. Practise hygiene
Another important factor of having a stress-free bus ride is to practise hygiene and make sure you don’t get caught by some infection. For this, you need to carry a sanitiser and a toilet spray. This is because when a bus takes a toilet stop, these toilets are very smelly and dirty and you obviously cannot go out in the air when nature calls. Better to carry your kit!
7. Sit first, get down last
I hate queues. So, I always preferring get on board first and get seated and then I get down last when the bus becomes empty. This keeps me sane and also practise social distancing as I hate people standing in queues and pushing each other to get down.
Hope this helps!
