Jim Corbett National Park is one of the most popular places to spot tigers in India. This massive jungle is well-connected with the highway. Jim Corbett is not just famous for tigers but is also rich in rare flora and fauna and one can spot many wild animals here such as elephants, leopards, barking deer, sambhar deer, Himalayan black bears, and sloths to name a few. This world-famous national park is house to more than 500 species of birds and reptiles and over 50 mammal species. I have been to Jim Corbett many times and this is why I am sharing the best itinerary for Jim Corbett with you in this post.
Situated in Uttarakhand state, Jim Corbett National park is spread across 1,318 km². This was established in 1936 which makes it the oldest national park in India. It has been named after the author, poacher and man-eater tiger hunter Jim Corbett. You will be surprised to know that this is the only national park in India that offers a night’s stay inside its jungle.
In this post, I am sharing a 3-day itinerary for Jim Corbett. You may modify the plan according to your needs or maybe cut it short to 2 days as well. I will also mention some other places that you can explore if you have more time.
3 Days Itinerary for Jim Corbett
Day 1:
- Arrive at the Jim Corbett National Park and check-in to your hostel, hotel or resort
- Go for the tiger safari (note: the tiger safari takes about 4-5 hours, you may ask your reception for assistance to book the safari)
- Visit the Kosi river barrage and call it a day
Day 2:
- Begin your day with visiting the Corbett Waterfalls (Note: it takes approx 3 hours to cover the waterfalls as you have to hike for approx 20 mins into the jungle to reach)
- Visit Corbett Museum
- Visit the Girija Devi Temple
- Come back to your accommodation and spend your evenings by the banks of River Kosi (Note: book an accommodation which has access to the river, my recommendation will be The Hosteller as it is the best option for riverside stay in Jim Corbett)
Day 3:
For 3rd day, you have 2 options:
- Explore Nainital
- Explore Ranikhet
Both this hill stations are closest to Jim Corbett National Park. The distance from Jim Corbett to Ranikhet is approx 125 km while to Nainital is approx 65 km. You can easily leave your accommodation in Jim Corbett for either of these 2 places after having your breakfast and come back by late evening.
If you go to Nainital, don’t forget to visit Jim Corbett residence. It is called the Gurney’s House and is open for visitors to explore.
Tips for Jim Corbett trip:
- I would advise you to check the climatic conditions before planning your trip as the jungle is mostly closed during the rainy season or when it’s raining continuously
- The best months to visit Jim Corbett is from November to March
- Many accommodations mention ‘riverside’ in their descriptions, but the river is only viewable from the lawn or balcony. I would suggest you to go through the pictures and do proper research when booking a ‘riverside’ accommodation in Jim Corbett
Speaking of which, I want to mention The Hosteller Jim Corbett here. I recently stayed in this budget-friendly hostel and had a great time. Though the river Kosi is not visible from the hostel, you can hike for 2 mins to reach the river and spend as much time as you want. See!
