Yesterday, I got an email from someone who had written probably the most confusing email ever. I am sorry to say this but it’s the truth. That email was approx 2000 words long and it failed to say out the clear purpose of it.
It took me around 10 minutes to read that email and at the end of it, I was like Dude, why you forgot to mention why you wrote this email!
Don’t worry, I didn’t reply this to that person but surely I gave that person few tips on pitching and writing an introductory email.
And then I decided to write this post, to help you learn few email introduction etiquette that will surely help you in future.
|Basic Email Introduction Etiquettes That You Must Know|
At first, keep in mind that the receiver of the person is not able to see your or hear you, so keep the tone of writing very polite.
Then don’t just jump over to the purpose of writing the email. Begin with greeting the person and giving the reference, like from where you the email id, how you found the person etc.
After this, politely start with explaining about yourself. Begin with ‘I am…’ you name and your profession followed by why you are writing that email.
Then mention why you think the receiver would help you and other important aspects of writing the email.
Always keep the introductory keep short, language simple, tone polite and sentences crisp.
Think like a receiver… and think how would you react if you get an email like this… And you will get your answer!!
