The beauty and the cultural heritage of Indian past has been captured in its oldest temples which reminds and foretells the tradition, belief, religion, worship, architecture, sculpture of kings and worshippers of ancient times. There are many temples which are older than 1000 years and still stand so magnificent and splendid with its year old carvings and sculpture.

The Jagannath temple in Puri dedicated to lord Vishnu was built-in 12th century by King Anantvarman. The main shrine of the temple building is more than 200 feet tall. The temple was built in Kalinga style of art with the granite carvings of Lord Shiva in the Nataraja form. Every year during the monsoon months the JaganathRathYatra is conducted.
In this occasion a huge chariot is pulled by devotees. Another temple is the Rameshwaram temple which is situated on the island of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and Lord Rama worshipped and offered prayer to lord Shiva in this temple after killing Ravana who was a Brahmin.
The Somnath temple which is located in Gujarat is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.Another oldest temple is the Padmanabhaswamy temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnuin Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala which was built around 500 B.C. Kanchipuram is a city of thousand temples in Tamil Nadu was the capital of Pallavasin the medieval period. Kanchipuram is the sacred places of Hinduism to attain moksha.

Shri Siddhivinayak Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganpati ,in Mumbai was built in 1801. Meenakshi temple in Madurai, dedicated to Goddess Parvati(Meenakshi) and Lord Shiva (Sundareswarar) built-in the 12th century. Konark Sun Temple in Konark Orissa known as the Black Pagoda, the temple was built-in the 13th century.

I feel really lucky that I have visited all of these beautiful temples in India. I strongly recommend you to visit these at least once.
