Just Like That

[First Post] Save Tigers, Only 1411 are Left !!

I am so excited to write my first post of this blog. Today 15-December-2007 is really a special day. I will celebrate this day every year as my blogging anniversary. Actually I don’t know how to begin and how far I will go with this blog but I just saw a tv ad where the narrator said ‘create a blog to spread awareness on save tigers initiative’. Well, here I am! My first post dedicated to the ‘Save Tigers’ initiative!! Tigers are such beautiful and marvellous creature. But it is sad to know that only 1411 are left in India!! Spread the word.

It is our national animal… don’t let this beautiful animal become extinct for our coming generations.

The tiger is not just a charismatic species or just another wild animal living in some far away forest.

The tiger is a unique animal which plays a pivotal role in the health and diversity of an ecosystem. It is a top predator which is at the apex of the food chain and keeps the population of wild ungulates in check, thereby maintaining the balance between prey herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed. Therefore, the presence of tigers in the forest is an indicator of the well being of the ecosystem. The extinction of this top predator is an indication that its ecosystem is not sufficiently protected, and neither would it exist for long thereafter.
If the tigers go extinct, the entire system would collapse. Therefore, it’s not just about saving a beautiful animal. It is about making sure that we live a little longer as the forests are known to provide ecological services like clean air, water, pollination, temperature regulation etc.
